Led by Madison Schoonmaker, the goal of TBD’s youth group is to connect, inspire, build community and social action through 8th-12th grade teen engagement, all in the mission of Temple Beth David.
From Madison: I have been a Temple Beth David member since I was 6 years old and have transitioned from student to aide and youth group leader. I am currently studying at Pasadena City College and plan to transfer to California State University of Los Angeles, majoring in Early Education. Having helped out as an aid in the religious school classrooms over the past four years, I became inspired to make teaching my career.I have a passion for social justice.
When I was 8 years old, I started “Project Dream” which was a blanket drive that I held every year to help homeless individuals get supplies they needed during winter months. After learning about the rising homeless population in the United States, I wanted to make a difference. I hope to encourage youth and young adults to find a cause they are passionate about and help the world as well. The youth group here at Temple Beth David gave me the sense of community and friendships I had also wanted growing up as a Jewish kid. I hope to give youth group members the same great experiences that I had. I am very excited to start this journey and create an environment for young adults that is welcoming, fun, and Jewishly Warm and Relevant!
